Highway 401 work through Cambridge coming to a close

(Photo taken July 31, 2023 Cambridge, Ont. courtesy of Morrison Hershfield and MTO) CAMBRIDGE, Ont. – Following eight years of construction and roadwork, adjustments to the section of Highway 401 passing through Cambridge are set to reach completion by the end of 2023.
The final phase of construction for this project between Hespeler Road and Townline Road and began in 2020.
This phase involved a range of construction work, including widening the highway from six to 10 lanes, replacing the Hespeler Road bridges, reconstructing the Hespeler Road interchange, rehabilitating the Townline Road bridge and installing a high-mast noise barrier.
The first phase of the project took place from 2015 to 2019 and included the replacement of the Franklin Boulevard Bridge in addition to widening the highway from six to 10 lanes between Highway 8 and Hespeler Road.
