Highway 401 expansion project begins

June 8, 2015  By  Andrew Macklin

June 8, 2015 – The widening of an important stretch of Highway 401 through the Kitchener-Waterloo corridor begins today.

According to a report from The Record, the $112.8 million project will expand traffic to 10 lanes on the 401 between Highway 8 and Hespeler Road in Cambridge.

Work began on the bridge infrastructure on the stretch of highway last year, with an additional $18.9 million being spent to replace two bridges and rehabilitate a third bridge. That work is to be completed by the end of the 2015.

The expansion project is expected to take four construction seasons, with work wrapping up by the end of 2018.
