CORNER BROOK, NL – Newfoundland and Labrador has approved funding for 31 highway and road repair and upgrade projects across 27 municipalities, with a combined investment of more than $32 million in these projects coming from federal, provincial and municipal governments.

These projects include intersection redesigns, roadside retaining wall replacements, culvert and bridge replacements, sidewalk installations and more than 20 re-paving projects. Funding approval was announced by Minster Gudie Hutchings, Minister John Abbott and Minister Gerry Byrne in Corner Brook this week.

The federal government is investment over $12 million through the Rural and Northern Communities Infrastructure stream, with an additional $165,000 coming from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s Green Infrastructure stream. With this announcement, the Rural and Northern Communities Infrastructure stream has made over 120 projects across Newfoundland and Labrador possible.

“With such a vast road network in our province and numerous municipal infrastructure requirements, I am very pleased with this combined funding to help address improvements in 27 municipalities,” said Newfoundland’s Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, John Abbott. “These projects align with our continued efforts to modernize road infrastructure and connect communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.”
