This round of announcements from the N.L. government comes as part of a larger, $1.4 billion initiative toward road and highway improvements over the next five years, including $225 million invested over the course of 2023-24.

Three of the 14 contracts were awarded to Marine Contractors, with a total funding for a total of $11 million, including a $5.4 million rehabilitation project on a section of the Trans-Canada Highway, a $4 million paving and patching job across sections of Cormack Road (Route 422), Howley Road (Route 401) and sections of highway between the Deer Lake Underpass and Humber River Bridge, along with a $1.6 million paving and culvert replacement project on Trout River and Riverside Drive.

The largest single contract in the group was awarded to Farrell’s Excavating Ltd. for a $6.9 million project to rehabilitate a section of the Burgeo Highway and replace two structural plate pipe arches on Route 480.
