SURREY, B.C. – The Surrey city council has approved a $15.7 million contract for road improvements to 64 Avenue, with BA Blacktop Infrastructure to oversee the widening of the roadway from two to four lanes and the addition of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.

Construction will begin this month, with an estimated completion date of spring 2025. The work has been coordinated to occur alongside road improvement to BC Hydro’s planned duct bank project along the same corridor.

Alongside the expanded lanes and alternative transportation infrastructure, the project will also include the addition of three signalized intersections across the passage to improve safety and neighbourhood access.

“As a key east-west corridor, widening 64 Avenue from two to four lanes will help ease congestion and reduce commute times for our residents,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “The City’s short-term transportation capital program focuses on delivering $300 million in transportation investments over the next four years to support our ever-growing population, and this is just the start.”
