September 19, 2014, St. Mary’s, Ont. – The Upper Thames
River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is receiving the highest honour for site
rehabilitation in the province of Ontario, the Bronze Plaque.
The Ontario Stone, Sand and Gravel Association will present
the award to the UTRCA in recognition of rehabilitation work done at the
Wildwood Pit. Only 20 Bronze Plaque awards have been given out in Ontario in
the award’s 38 year history.
This site was rehabilitated to a tallgrass prairie
plantation – an endangered ecosystem that sustains rare plant species.
Contributing to Ontario’s biodiversity, the site boasts a unique assemblage of
natural heritage features.
A ceremony will take place on Tuesday, September 23rd
from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Wildwood Conservation Area in St. Mary’s.
