TORONTO, Ont. – A planned bridge linking pedestrians and cyclists from mainland Toronto to an artificial island of parks and public infrastructure has moved into the design phase.

The Keating Channel Pedestrian Bridge, linking a channel south of Parliament Street to what will eventually be Villiers Island just off the Port Lands, has announced the shortlist of proposed designers on Aug. 10, following a request for qualifications in May of this year.

Waterfront Toronto and its partners received 13 submissions from teams at the local, national, and international level. The project is looking to prioritize Indigenous culture, history, and art in its design, with Waterfront Toronto and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation announcing the five finalist teams.

All teams feature a lead firm, engineer or engineering firm, architect, landscaping architect and indigenous consultant. The shortlist of lead firms includes Entuitive, EXP, Henning Larsen, RJC Engineers and Zeidler Architecture.
