HALIFAX, N.S. – WCB Nova Scotia has appointed Karen Adams to the role of CEO for the organization, effective Aug. 14.

Adams has held numerous leadership positions at the international level, including CEO of both Alberta Pensions Services and Canadian fintech firm Fundserv. Her accomplishments in these positions have earned her honours including being voted Wealth Professional’s 2019 “CEO of the Year,” along with recognition amongst Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network in 2017.

Chair of WCB Nova Scotia’s board of directors, Saeed El-Darahali announced Adams’ appointment in July, expressing both excitement at the new leadership and gratitude towards the organization’s interim CEO for the prior eight months, Shelley Rowan.

“These are exciting times for the system and for the WCB, and we’re thrilled Karen will lead us through them,” stated El-Darahali. “Shelley’s efforts have ensured that Karen begins her tenure at a time when the WCB is on a solid financial footing, ready to embrace new opportunities to keep more working Nova Scotians and their workplaces safe and secure from workplace injury in the years ahead.”
