Proposal to expand Nelson Aggregate quarry set for public review

September 2, 2021  By Rock to Road Staff

An application to expand a quarry in Burlington, Ont. owned by Nelson Aggregate Co. is due to go before the public for comment.

Halton Region will host a statutory public meeting on Sept. 15 at 11:30 a.m. for stakeholders to respond to the company’s proposal for the Burlington Quarry’s expansion.

If approved, the application, which was filed by Nelson Aggregate Co. in May 2020, would extend the license and extraction areas to the south and west of the existing quarry lands.

Currently, the Burlington Springs Golf Club sits on the west lands, and agricultural and residential areas occupy the south.

The ministry of northern development, mines, natural resources and forestry will ultimately be responsible for deciding on the quarry expansion via the Aggregates Resources Act.

The meeting will be held via Zoom. For details on how to join, visit the Halton site.
