Groups oppose new Nelson quarry

February 24, 2016  By  Andrew Macklin

February 24, 2016 – Nelson Aggregates is again being met with community resistance towards an application for a new quarry license.

According to an article from the New Tecumseh Free Press, two organizations will speak to their objections to the new pit during a meeting of the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority on Friday.

Nelson Aggregates has applied for a Class A license to extract up to one million tonnes per year from a property located near County Road 13 and 5 Sideroad in the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio. The property is approximately 73 hectares, with 51.5ha for the extraction area.

Concerns raised include potential water and flooding issues, noise and air quality due to increased truck traffic and the tonnage fee earned in relation to the financial impact on the roadways used by the gravel trucks.
