VANCOUVER, B.C. – British Columbia’s Minster of Labour has appointed Baltej Dhillon as chair to WorkSafeBC’s board of directors for a three-year term effective Friday, June 30. Dhillon will replace Jeff Parr, who served in the role from August of 2020 to June 2023.

Dhillon has been a member of WorkSafeBC’s board of directors since 2017. His background in law enforcement spans three decades, during which time he worked for the RCMP and received distinctions including the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals for community service.

This appointment marks the first time a South Asian Canadian has occupied this role. Dhillon made similar strides in diversity and representation during his time with Canada’s federal police force, when he was the first officer to wear a turban as a part of the uniform.

“I look forward to taking on the role as chair of WorkSafeBC’s board of directors,” Dhillon said in a press release. “I am committed to working with our key stakeholders to improve workplace health and safety and help ensure that workers get home safely at the end of the day.”
