May 4, 2023  By Rock to Road Staff

May 2, 2023, LITTLE NARROWS, NS – CGC Inc. are making a $104 million investment in the relaunch and revitalization of a gypsum quarry in Little Narrows, located in the central Cape Breton area. Once fully operational, the quarry is set to produce up to two million tonnes of raw gypsum per year.

The revitalization process of the quarry, which was previously active from 1954 to 2016, is expected to take up to three years. This process involves the installation of a new dock and shiploader, new crusher and conveyor systems, and new mining equipment such as drills, locators, excavators and haul trucks.

Upon completion, the company expects the site to support over 100 long-term mining jobs, including heavy equipment operators, lab technicians, and engineers. Gypsum mined from this site will be shipped by boat to manufacturing locations across the eastern seaboard owned by CGC and their parent company, USG Industries.
