$22 billion for Calgary infrastructure

December 3, 2015 – Over the next four years, the City of Calgary plans to spend $22 billion on municipal infrastructure priorities.

According to an article from The Globe and Mail, the priorities for the spending include road and interchanges, as well as significant investments in public transit projects and green infrastructure.

However, Mayor Naheed Nenshi stated that the city is about $7 billion short of the amount available versus what is available. But the city is confident that most or all of that gap will be filled funds from the provincial and federal governments. For example, in the NDP government’s first budget, tabled in late October, Premier Rachel Notley promised around $5 billion in funding for Calgary infrastructure projects.
