CALGARY, Alta. – Lafarge Canada is making further commitments to their net-zero emission goals with the announcement of the electrification of their work truck fleet.

In collaboration with British Columbia-based electric vehicle supplier Vicinity Motor Corp. (VMC), Lafarge will be using the all-electric industrial vehicle model, the VMC 1200, to reduce Scope 1 emissions on aggregate and production worksites.

This initiative will begin with the deployment of two all-electric VMC trucks in their aggregates and ready-mix operations in B.C., with additional models to be integrated throughout 2024.

Each VMC truck is estimated to reduce on-site annual emissions of CO2 by 6,200 tonnes.

“The benefits of this electrification effort are twofold, delivering cost savings and contributing to a reduction in Scope 1 emissions on site,” said Lincoln Kyne, senior vice president of Lafarge Canada’s B.C. market.
