April 18, 2023, ZUG, Switzerland – Holcim has introduced ECOCycle, a proprietary circular technology platform that looks to reconstitute construction and demolition (C&D) waste materials into new construction solutions, including low-carbon cement formulations and concrete fillers for road construction.

With ECOCycle, it is possible for concrete, cement, and aggregates to be comprised of between 10 to 100 per cent recycled C&D materials with no reduction in performance, only its environmental burden, reported Holcim in a press statement.

The rollout of this technology has begun across Europe. In France, Holcim is building an affordable housing complex using entirely recycled concrete. In the UK, the company is using aggregates made from these recycled materials in a residential area construction project.

“With our ECOCycle technology, we can build cities from cities, recycling 100 per cent of construction demolition materials into new solutions, so everything gets reused, and nothing gets lost,” said Jan Jenisch, Holcim’s chief executive officer, in a news release.
