December 8, 2023  By Rock to Road Staff

IRVING, TX – Heidelberg Materials North America has announced a free accredited course for professionals in the construction materials and concrete industries to learn about the environmental impact of concrete’s carbon emissions.

The course includes a basic overview of the material science behind concrete mixtures and uses real-life examples and case studies on how to reduce concrete’s environmental footprint, including the proper selection of materials for low-carbon mixes. The course also reviews strategies around carbon sequestration, capture utilization and storage.

Learning objectives within the course include identifying key contributors to concrete’s carbon footprint and best practices around its reduction, exploring supplementary cementitious materials and their applications in carbon reduction and the role of carbon capture and storage in the industry’s pursuit of carbon reduction goals.

The course is built around Heidelberg’s Roadmap to Net Zero Concrete initiative, the company’s effort to lead decarbonization across the concrete industry. The program is accredited by AIA and is available through AEC Daily.
