HEIDELBERG, Germany – A shake-up is coming to Heidelberg Materials in the new year, with the company announcing a number of changes to both the structure and personnel of their managing board, effective January 2024.

The company has announced the merging of their Western & Southern Europe group and their Northern & Eastern Europe-Central Asia group into a singular group area they’re calling the Europe group. Jon Morrish, currently of the Western & Southern Europe group, will be responsible for heading the new group.

The Africa-Eastern Mediterranean Basin group will be expanded to include the markets of Kazakhstan and Russia, being renamed the Africa & Mediterranean-Western Asia (AMWA) group to reflect the change. Hakan Gurdal, who leads the group in its current iteration, will take on these additional markets.

Heidelberg Materials’ general manager for Italy, Roberto Callieri, has been promoted to the company’s managing board and in this new role will also oversee their Asia market.

Continuing these changes, chief financial officer René Aldach will assume responsibility for the company’s Australia markets.

This major overhaul is a key step in securing the long-term success of the company, according to the chairman of Heidelberg Materials’ supervisory board Dr. Bernd Scheifele.

“The changes within the managing board are part of our long-term succession planning,” said Scheifele. “By reorganizing the responsibilities for our group areas and putting an even higher focus on the technical aspects of our business, we’re further strengthening the basis for the continued successful development of our company.”
