April 1, 2016 – A major hurdle has been cleared in the development of a new 180-acre gravel pit in Adjala-Tosorontio.
According to an article from simcoe.com, Simcoe County officials have approved an amendment that will allow the proposal to move forward. The amendment allows for 123 acres to change designation from Protected Aggregate Resource to Licensed Pit.
However, the new gravel pit will still have to overcome an upcoming Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) challenge filed by a local group of concerned citizens. The groups are claiming that the pit will have a negative impact on water resources, road safety and the environment.
