Sureway looks to extend gravel pit

January 12, 2016  By  Andrew Macklin

January 12, 2016 – Sureway Contracting is again applying to excavate gravel from a 22-hectare site adjacent to its current pit in Parkland County, Alta.

According to an article from the Edmonton Journal, the requested excavation falls within a 305-metre wide greenbelt that serves as a buffer between the current operation and the Patricia Hills Estate subdivision.

The subdivision appeal board turned down a previous quest to excavate the site, filed in May of 2011, because it would negatively impact nearby residents. However, residents at Sureway has filed a new proposal that provides stronger protection against noise and dust, cited as major issues with the first proposal.

Sureway would need five years to excavate and rehabilitate the site. The County of Parkland municipal planning commission awarded conditional approval of Sureway’s proposal in late 2015.
