Canadian limestone quarry shipments on the Great Lakes down for 2023

WESTLAKE, OH – A report from the Lake Carriers’ Association shows a decrease in limestone shipments from Canadian quarries for 2023, with overall and stateside rates holding steady or showing slight downtrends.

A total of 5.5 million tons of limestone from Canadian quarries was shipped over the Great Lakes in 2023, a 4.4 per cent decrease compared to 2022 and 1.8 per cent below the five-year average.

The U.S. experienced a less than one per cent increase in shipments last year at 23.1 million tons; a figure that shows a less than one per cent decrease compared to their overall five-year average.

Limestone quarries shipped a total of 28.6 million tons of their product across the Great Lakes over 2023; a less than one per cent decrease when compared to 2022 and a 1.1 per cent decrease compared to five year averages.
