Blasting in Yellowknife quarry causes shockwave
November 15, 2023 By Rock to Road Staff

YELLOWKNIFE, N.W.T. — Blasting at a quarry site near Yellowknife had the city feeling tremors on Monday afternoon.
Originally reported by Cabin Radio, the site about 3.5 kilometres west of the Northwest Territories’ capital city confirmed a blast had taken place when the shockwave was felt.
Blasting is common at quarries surrounding the city, including the site operated by CJ Contracting, but the 1 p.m. blast was reported to be stronger than most.
Facebook reports from around the city showed concerns by citizens in the immediate aftermath of the shockwave which was felt as far away as the Yellowknife airport.
