A snowstorm and slick roads couldn’t keep aggregate production professionals away from Quarry Tech, Rock to Road’s one-day exclusive forum focused on optimizing quarry and sand and gravel pit operations, which took place on Feb. 12 at the Alt Hotel Halifax Airport.
Industry attendees came from all over Atlantic Canada to learn all about new practices and technologies related to improving screening and crushing performance, plug-and-play automation, bearing maintenance best practices, updates on the latest drone regulations, the connected quarry using smart scale technologies, and optimizing vibratory feeders and hoppers.
Travis Harvey, chief pilot for AeroVision Canada, tackled the latest regulations from Transport Canada regarding remotely piloted aviation systems (RPAS) operated in visual line of sight.
Spencer Kossl from Terex MPS discussed how automation can connect both portable and modular systems together for a simple low-cost solution that improves communication and diagnostics.
Mike Leger of Syntron Material Handling discussed the critical factors for optimizing your vibratory feeders and hoppers.
Superior Industries’ Matt Gerten offered the crowd tips to help maximize cone crusher performance.
Mario Borsella from NTN Bearing Corporation of Canada presented on bearing solutions for conveyors and provided an overview of the common failure modes associated with bearings used on conveyor applications. He also discussed how to implement bearing best maintenance practices to avoid costly bearing failures.
Trimble Loadrite’s Joe Steiger and All Weigh Solutions’ Justin Marshall presented on how quarries can use new smartscales and monitoring tools to help track material flow from pit to loadout; improve safety across the site; provide outstanding customer service; and identify areas for improvement.
Polydeck Screen Corp.’s Jef McGee and Alex Caruana tackled the top five screening issues every producer faces.
Attendees battled through a snowfall and tough driving conditions to make their way to Quarry Tech Halifax.
The next Quarry Tech forum will take place on April 8 in Calgary.
