Ontario introduces Connecting Links program
By Andrew Macklin
November 10, 2015 – Ontario is set to open applications for Connecting Links, a new $15 million annual local infrastructure program.
The new program will help municipalities pay the construction and repair costs for connecting links – municipal roads that connect communities to provincial highways and border crossings. There are 352 kilometres of connecting links, including 70 bridges, in 77 Ontario municipalities.
The program will help to cover the costs of bridge replacements, pavement rehabilitation, storm sewer construction and intersection improvements. Projects will be funded up to 90 per cent, to a maximum of $3 million.
This funding is part of more than $130 billion in infrastructure funding over 10 years, with projects such as roads, bridges, transit systems, schools and hospitals.
Applications for Connecting Links will be available on November 19 on the Ministry of Transportation webpage. Funding for the new Connecting Links program is expected to begin in the spring of 2016.
