. – Ten years
after rehabilitating its gravel pit on the Bow River in Calgary, and then
selling the land to Remington Development Corporation in 2005, Lafarge Canada
Inc. has moved its Western Canada headquarters to Quarry Park, Alta.

“This is
really a full lifecycle story,” says René Thibault, CEO of Lafarge in Western
Canada. “We were able to extract the aggregates from the site, put them to use
in Calgary’s roads and buildings and then repurpose the land to be valuable to
a developer.”

Lafarge
has been a big player in sustainable development since 2007. One of the
company’s area of focus is ensuring that all sites have rehabilitation plans to
either return extraction sites to nature, or prepare them for a second use as
is the case at Quarry Park.

Lafarge
is now directing its aggregates, asphalt and paving, cement and concrete activities
throughout the Western Provinces, Dakotas and the Pacific Northwest from the
Quarry Central building at 115 Quarry Park Road.
