Komatsu redesign electric haul truck to minimize cost per ton

TOKYO – Komatsu’s 980E-5SE electric drive mining truck has been redesigned with a number of new features that look to offer quarry and pit owners high production at reduced costs.
The machine’s 4,400 HP engine, the highest-in-class available horsepower, offers increased speed on grade in deep pit applications. Engineered with an electric drive, the 980E-5SE also supports fuel efficiency, along with decreased downtime due to fewer mechanical components.
Durability also factors in the truck’s design, with wheel traction control, 400 short-ton capacity, and a frame verified to carry rated payloads with structural reliability.
The 980E-5SE has an operating weight of 1,400,000 lbs and comes equipped with an ergonomic cab and automotive-style cruise control.
