management admitted that the industry wasn’t ready for the Roadshow three years
ago.

In a roundtable discussion with editorial colleagues from
across the U.S., five members of Topcon’s Marketing and Construction Business
departments discussed the timing of the 23-city Technology Roadshow that kicked
off east of San Francisco today.

On the heels of CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2011, looking for a way to
reach out to current and potential customers across Canada and the U.S., ideas
like the large-scale roadshow were bantered about but their was a definite
recognition that such an event would not fly. But with the recent transition
that electronic jobsite solutions have made from should-have to must-have
technology for contractors in the road construction business, 2014 makes sense
as the year to take on such a large venture. Those feelings were confirmed at
CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2014, where the tone of visiting contractors changed.

The competitive edge in the industry has been finding ways
to do the job cheaper, quicker, and more efficiently, three demands that
jobsite solutions can provide for the contractor. But realizing the
efficiencies that these solutions provide doesn’t happen without understanding
the technology, something that has been a difficult challenge for companies
providing software solutions.

“Our industry is visual; I want to come and see it,” said
Murray Lodge, senior vice-president and general manager of the construction
business unit at Topcon.

That’s why Topcon is making the investment to visit 23
cities across Canada and the United States this summer, starting here in the
valley east of San Francisco near its corporate headquarters and heading to
five Canadian cities in the months to come.
