MARKHAM, Ont. – A new roadway coming to York Region aims to connect traffic between the municipalities of Markham and Richmond Hill more efficiently.

The four-lane connecting road is being built between Orlando Avenue in Richmond Hill and Markham’s Markland Street. After a ground-breaking ceremony on Sept. 19, full construction is expected to be completed in fall 2025.

In addition to the new road, this project will also include the installation of a bridge, multi-use sidewalks and paths, along with native trees and plants.

This project is being built in partnership with York Region, the municipalities of Richmond Hill and Markham, and Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation.

The aim of this new road is to relieve traffic congestion across the Great Toronto Area (GTA) and provide much-needed improvements to the region’s overall transportation network, according to Markham’s Mayor, Frank Scarpitti.

“We know already that many of our roads in the region, and certainly connecting us to the rest of the GTA, are at capacity or worse, and we need this type of investment to improve the transportation network,” he said.
