SCARBROUGH, Ont. – Construction has been completed on three pedestrian bridges as part of Metrolinx’s overhaul of the Milliken GO Station, with the company using a large crane to hoist the structures into place.

Each bridge is more than 50 metres in length and crosses over the new Steeles Avenue East Underpass to provide pedestrians and cyclists access between the station, the Pacific Mall parking lot, and Splendid China Mall.

The underpass and bridges replace the need for a former crossing at Steeles for the Stouffville GO Station, allowing for the passing of trains and traffic without the interruption of traffic.

While the project involved extensive planning and preparation, the method of installation using the crane saw the project reach completion overnight.

This project is part of a larger construction initiative by Metrolinx to improve the Milliken GO Station, which also includes the addition of new track platforms, pedestrian tunnels, weather canopies, and lighting.
