The Ontario Road Builders’ Association announced today that its 16th annual Road Building Academy (Academy) will take place from February 27 to March 3, 2023 at the BMO Institute for Learning in Scarborough.

The Academy brings world-class instructors and courses from across North America to Ontario. The 2023 program will feature 27 courses this year, bringing back popular ones including 8 online courses from previous years as well as 5 brand new courses.

The Academy is always looking to add new and relevant courses that keep you and your employees ahead of ongoing changes in the construction industry. New courses for 2023 include Building Positive Workplace Culture, Developing the Next Generation of Forepersons, Superintendents & Project Managers, Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 & Traffic Management – For Road Builders by Road Builders, Sustainable Asphalt Pavements, and Practical Solutions in Managing Excess Soil.

“Education gives everyone the opportunity to acquire expertise and competencies in order to expand their skill set and develop future opportunities. It forms part of our personal and professional development in an effort to avoid stagnation and helps us reach our full potential. Through the Road Building Academy knowledge is now at everyone’s fingertips,” said Bryan Hocking, CEO, ORBA.

Once again in 2023, the Academy will offer a certificate in Project Management I in conjunction with the University of Waterloo. The Academy will offer Project Management II again this year, as it was well attended last year. The curriculum is compatible with the project management industry standard set by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and courses qualify for Professional Developments Units (PDUs)/Contact Hours.

Companies considering registering for the Academy are encouraged to take advantage of the Canada-Ontario Job Grants Program, which gives direct financial support for employee training. Funding is available to small, medium and large businesses planning to deliver short-term training to employees. All ORBA Road Building Academy courses are eligible for funding. Employers are eligible for up to $10,000 in government support per person for training cost.
