PUSLINCH, Ont. – Dufferin Aggregates is taking advantage of an unseasonably warm October in Ontario.

The company received approval from the Township of Puslinch to extend its year, maintaining summer hours and haulage amounts into December.

The Aberfoyle Pit is normally allowed to operate from May 1 to Nov. 15, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. Dufferin received approval at an Oct. 18 meeting to extend those hours for one month, to Dec. 15, and add an extra hour in the morning, for a start time of 7 a.m.

This isn’t the first year the township has agreed to allow the Aberfoyle Pit to extend its year. Councillors agree to the one-year extension for 2023 and said they would look into adding an additional four-year extension beginning in 2024. Township staff were asked to draw up an agreement for the four-year plan for next year.

Concerns about trucks parked roadside and making dangerous left-hand turns also led councillors to ask Wellington Country to provide a left-hand turn lane in the area, to help with the flow of traffic.

The extension petition was approved with a condition that trucks do not park at the side of the road while waiting to enter the pit.
