$12.7 million in highway improvements set for Kelvington, Greenwater Lake Provincial Park areas of Saskatchewan

Visitors to Greenwater Lake Provincial Park in the Saskatchewan’s east-central region will be enjoying significantly upgraded roads this summer, according to the province.

Work will soon be completed on a significant paving and road repair project that includes a portion of Highway 38 and roads inside Greenwater Lake Provincial Park. Paving is expected to finish by mid-August on the 23 km portion of Highway 38 north of the junction with Highway 49.

Another 10 km of road is being repaved inside the park, along with some repairs.

The total investment is $10.9 million.

“Saskatchewan’s parks have been extremely popular destinations this summer,” Highways Minister Fred Bradshaw said. “I am proud that the government has been able to enhance the experience both inside and leading to Greenwater Lake and other provincial parks.”

Additional paving

Another 3.6 km of paving on Highway 38 from Chelan to the south has been added as a supplemental item on this tender. It will be completed in the 2022 construction season at a cost of $1.8 million, bringing the total investment to $12.7 million.

“Having grown up in the Greenwater Lake area, I know the park is a very popular destination,” Kelvington-Wadena MLA Hugh Nerlien said. “Our residents will also appreciate this investment in Highway 38, which is a very important roadway in our local transportation network.”

There is $90.5 million of construction work taking place this season in and around Saskatchewan’s parks, including 11 highway paving and upgrade projects, improvements to three park access roads and paving inside six parks.
