conexpodayoneMarch 4, 2014, Las Vegas, Nev. – The first official day of activity at CONEXPO-CON/AGG saw a flurry of new product releases announced by some of the biggest equipment manufacturers.

Many of the companies that provide big iron for Canada’s aggregates and roadbuilding industries announced important new products that are set to come to Canada, including Caterpillar, Case, Metso, Komatsu, Astec Industries, Hyundai, Michelin and Sandvik.

With so many new products launched, here are a few of the biggest stories we saw first-hand on day one:

  • Caterpillar chairman Doug Oberhelman held an interactive discussion with the media to announce some of the company’s newest innovations. Those innovations included the launch of the 336F H hybrid hydraulic excavator featuring Cat’s Tier 4 Final emissions technology. Cat also launched the 966 and 972 M series wheel loaders that offer the option of being equipped with the company’s XE advanced powertrain.
  • Metso released a new product that they believe is a game-changer for the aggregates industry: the L220D two-in-one mobile crusher and screen. Using a GP220 or HP220 cone crusher, this new innovation is compact, lightweight and easily transported from site to site. It carries significant savings in maintenance and fuel costs over the use of two separate units, and retails at a significantly lower cost than buying both a crusher and a screen.
  • Astec Industries unveiled a 47-machine booth, of which 41 machines were either brand new or were previously launched machines featured new technology. The biggest brand news for the Canadian market was the unveiling of three new products from Telsmith, including the T400 cone crusher, H3450 Hydrajaw and 820 Track Screening Plant.
  • Case CE had several major new products on display, including its new Tier 4 Final excavator, the CX350D. Not available in the North American market until 2015, the excavator provides up to a 10 per cent fuel efficiency over the previous model, as well as improved draw bar pull. That same fuel efficiency can also be found in the 821F and 921F wheel loaders, which also feature Tier 4 Final technology. Case also released a pair of new High Frequency Asphalt Rollers, the DV209 and DV210.

Day two of CONEXPO-CON/AGG will include major product news from Terex, Volvo, McLanahan and Topcon. Be sure to visit rocktoroad.com for the latest information, and follow us on Twitter @RockToRoad for live updates from the show floor.
