CALGARY, Alta. – Industry professionals were given a look inside CDE’s newest waste wash plant for Calgary Aggregate Recycling (CAR) during an open house event on Sept 7.

More than 100 industry representatives attended the open house at the plant; the largest the company has built in Canada to date.

The new facility can process more than 250 tonnes per hour of raw feed material — including contaminated soils, and construction, demolition and excavation waste — into construction materials across a range of outputs including fine, coarse, undersized, midsized and oversized.

In addition to the versatility the plant is set to bring to the area’s aggregate and material recycling operations, it has also been designed in alignment with Alberta’s environmental and economic goals in mind. The plant is estimated to reduce annual carbon emissions across the province by more than 22,500 tons.

“A more sustainable, diversified provincial economy requires using our resources more wisely; we need to think about waste as a resource rather than a cost,” said Justin Riemer, Chief Executive Officer of Emissions Reduction Alberta. “The concrete sector here in Alberta has been a leader of decarbonization and circular economy technologies, and this new facility is further evidence of that.”

Following the open house, CDE has announced a virtual tour of the facility, guiding attendees through the technology and processes behind the material recycling process. The virtual tour will take place in early October. Participants can register on the company’s website.
