Capital Paving’s Miles for Memories

October 1, 2015  By  Andrew Macklin

October 1, 2015 – On September 19th, 2015, Capital Paving held its second Miles for Memories 2Km/5Km walk/run event at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area to raise funds and awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia related diseases.

Capital has a personal connection with Alzheimer’s as its founder, David Stephens, was diagnosed and lived with Alzheimer’s until his passing in 2014. Capital and its employees have been committed for a number of years to this cause and has held annual Coffee Breaks, participated in the Alzheimer Society’s Walk for Memories and has now organized two successful Miles for Memories events, all in an effort to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research.

Over 130 people attended the event and through corporate and personal donations, Miles for Memories raised over $50,000 (funds are still rolling in), which will be donated to the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington. The funds will assist in the care for diagnosed individuals in the community and support to their families. Over the last several years, Capital helped raise over $125,000 and plans to continue supporting the Alzheimer Society in the future.

Capital Paving sincerely thanks Scotiabank as the events’ platinum sponsor and all other corporate sponsors that helped make Miles for Memories a resounding success.
