March 28, 2016 – Work is about to begin to widen a stretch of Highway 401 in Mississauga to help alleviate congestion issues in and out of the Greater Toronto Area.
According to an article from The Mississauga News, the stretch of the highway from east of McLaughlin Road to east of the Credit River will double in size over the next three, widening from six lanes to twelve.
Currently, the approximately four-kilometre portion of the highway experiences significant bottlenecks, in part due to elevation changes as a result of the river valley.
Work on the highway expansion is set to begin in April and will last approximately three years.
