Volvo’s Golden Hauler coming to Moncton

May 25, 2016  By Volvo CE

May 25, 2016 – Fifty years ago Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) launched the world’s first articulated hauler, the Volvo DR 631, in Braås, Sweden. “Gravel Charlie” quickly became a construction industry icon and operator favourite, with over 70,000 articulated haulers sold throughout the world.

To celebrate this special year of the articulated hauler, Volvo CE employees in Shippensburg custom-painted gold an A40G, dubbed the Golden Hauler, which will travel across the U.S. and Canada in 2016 to promote the anniversary.

On Friday, June 3rd the Golden Hauler will be showcased at our Moncton Branch where exclusive viewings of the Golden Hauler will take place between 12p.m. and 3p.m. It will then travel to the Skills Canada National Competition at the Moncton Coliseum and remain on display for the entire event from June 5 – 8.

“Skills/Compétences Canada is excited to partner with Volvo Construction Equipment to profile the valuable and exciting careers in the construction and manufacturing sectors,” said Shaun Thorson, CEO of Skills/Compétences Canada. “It’s important for youth to understand the full range of educational pathways and career opportunities in the skilled trades.”

The Golden Hauler will end its journey at CONEXPO 2017. It will be auctioned with all proceeds benefiting post-high school technical training programs that encourage new generations to enter the construction industry.
