July 21, 2016 – Fifty years ago Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) launched the world’s first articulated hauler, the Volvo DR 631, in Braås, Sweden. “Gravel Charlie” quickly became a construction industry icon and operator favourite, with over 70,000 articulated haulers sold throughout the world!

We continue to celebrate this special year of the articulated hauler as the custom-painted golden A40G, dubbed the “Golden Hauler”, will be travelling in Quebec to promote the anniversary.

During the week of July 19 through to July 22 the Golden Hauler will be traveling to many Strongco locations in Quebec and be showcased for exclusive viewings to customers and local area trade schools. There will also be special guest speakers from Volvo and Skills/Compétences Canada to promote careers in skilled trades and technologies to Canadian youth.

“Skills/Compétences Canada is excited to partner with Volvo Construction Equipment to profile the valuable and exciting careers in the construction and manufacturing sectors,” said Shaun Thorson, CEO of Skills/Compétences Canada. “It’s important for youth to understand the full range of educational pathways and career opportunities in the skilled trades.”

Thursday, July 21 • Strongco Trois Riviéres Branch and then on to Cap Excavation customer site, who currently own 50 articulated haulers; and
Friday, July 22 • Strongco Saint-Augustine Branch with special guests from Skills/Compétences Canada.

The “Golden Hauler” will end its journey at CONEXPO 2017. It will be auctioned with all proceeds benefiting post-high school technical training programs that encourage new generations to enter the construction industry.
