Timmins applies for Airport Road funding

February 12, 2016  By  Andrew Macklin

February 12, 2016 – Timmins is moving forward with a plan to restructure Airport Road, but the city is hoping to obtain federal funds to help cover the cost.

According to an article from the Timmins Press, the city will shut down the road in the summer of 2018 for the $4 million replacement of the two-lane bridge over Kraft Creek, south of Laforest Road. The bridge, originally built in the 1960s, has a timber substructure that is only built to last 50 years. Part of the timber substructure is showing signs of severe rot.

The city has applied for federal funding through the Building Canada – Small Communities Fund to help payfor the project.
