December 13, 2016 - It is no secret that proper compaction in the field is one of the most important aspects of building a pavement and is key to long-term pavement performance. Research shows that durability is linked to increased pavement density.
December 1, 2016 - The Ontario Hot Mix Producers Association’s (OHMPA) 25th Anniversary Fall Asphalt Seminar focusing on producing quality hot mix asphalt kicked off this morning in Vaughan with approximately 425 people in attendance.
November 16, 2016 - The B2W Software application for equipment maintenance and repairs links heavy civil construction shop, field and management teams and helps them maximize uptime and cut maintenance costs.
November 3, 2016 - Properly compacted asphalt is a major factor in the lifespan of roads, since inadequately compacted asphalt deteriorates at a more rapid rate than properly compacted material. With the billions spent on road construction and repairs each year, it has become a matter of urgency to find new technologies that can ensure the integrity of asphalt on newly paved roads. New radio wave technology is now available to non-destructively determine asphalt density during application.

February 26, 2016 - A common gravel road repair and road building approach is to remove oversize rocks and bury subgrade problems, such as potholes or protruding rock, under additional gravel. But this “band aid” approach, which does not deal with underlying problems, is costly. It can require hauling in 200-300 per cent more material than truly necessary to resurface a gravel road, only to have the problems resurface.
December 17, 2015 - IC-IMPACTS, a Network of Centres of Excellence funded by the Federal Government of Canada, unveiled an innovative new road in Thondebavi, India. Located near Bangalore, the new road uses advanced Canadian pavement technologies to increase the road's lifespan and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
Roadway construction zones are dangerous by their nature. Add in the element of night and suddenly the traditional hazards of roadway work zones are joined with low visibility and a higher rate of impaired or distracted drivers.
Connecting Montreal with Kahnawake, the Honoré Mercier Bridge extends almost one mile over the St. Lawrence River. It serves as a link between Montreal Island and the South Shore, and is the shortest route from Montreal to New York State in the United States. Not surprisingly, it’s one of the busiest bridges in Canada with an estimated 30 million vehicles crossing it each year.
