New bridge to be built on B.C. Highway 113

November 9, 2017 – Work will begin in early spring 2018 to replace the Ksi Sii Aks (Tseax) River Bridge in the Nisga’a Territory, which will make the crossing safer and more efficient for motorists.

“Multiple accidents have occurred on the existing bridge and this upgrade is a top priority for the Nisga’a Lisims Government and the ministry,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Claire Trevena. “The existing single-lane bridge will be replaced by a new two-lane clear span bridge, providing a safer crossing for residents of the surrounding communities.”

The bridge is located on Highway 113 within the Nisga’a Memorial Lava Beds Park, approximately 80 kilometres northwest of the Highway 16 and Highway 113 junction in Terrace. The new bridge will improve traffic flow and sight lines on both sides of the bridge.

Formula Contractors from Prince George, B.C. was awarded the $3.75-million contract and the project is expected to be completed in fall 2018. During construction, traffic will be redirected over a single-lane detour bridge. Drivers are advised to follow the instructions of traffic-control signs and construction workers on-site. 

The ministry is committed to rehabilitating highways and bridges throughout British Columbia, and to building new infrastructure where it is needed. The B.C. government will continue to invest in transportation infrastructure for the safe, reliable and efficient movement of people and goods.
