Highway 7 expansion project update

November 11, 2016 – Ontario continues to make progress on the expansion of Highway 7, which will improve traffic flow, create jobs and support local economic growth in the Waterloo Region.

Approximately 22,000 vehicles travel on Highway 7 between Kitchener and Guelph every day. This month, new retaining walls are being installed around the Victoria St. and Highway 85 intersection in Kitchener. Necessary construction is also starting underground, ahead of the replacement of the Victoria St. bridge and the building of new ramps that will connect Highway 85 to Highway 7.

These upgrades form part of the Highway 7 expansion project, and will create or sustain approximately 82 jobs in the region. Work is expected to be completed in fall 2017.

The contract was awarded to Dufferin Construction Company, a division of CRH Canada Group Inc., for $11.8 million.

Ontario is making the largest investment in public infrastructure in the province’s history — about $160 billion over 12 years, which is supporting 110,000 jobs every year across the province, with projects such as hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and transit.
