407 extension delayed until 2016

December 4, 2015  By  Andrew Macklin

December 4, 2015 – Phase one of the extension of Ontario’s 407 toll highway will not finish by the end of 2015 as originally scheduled.

According to an article from the Toronto Star, Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca cited the pace of early design work as a key reason why completion of the current phase of completion will not occur until the spring.

Work on pavement markings, bridge construction and final layers of asphalt have not completed yet, along with a full safety inspection, work that cannot be completed during the winter months.

Once the highway extension is completed, which will extend the road from Brock Road in Pickering to Harmony Road in Oshawa, drivers will get a few months of free access before tolls are charged (at a rate lower than the existing portion of the highway).
