Saskatchewan releases fall road tenders

October 5, 2015 – The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is releasing its fall tender plan, announcing more than $174 million of highway work for the 2016 construction season.

The projects include about 50 km of paving, 115 km of repaving, 40 km in grading and paving, 50 km of maintenance, five bridge replacements or rehabilitations, and two culvert installations.

“We are excited to take the first step toward another busy construction year in the province,” highways and infrastructure minister Nancy Heppner said. “A large fall tender plan allows contractors to prepare for work next season, leading to more efficient roadbuilding.”

Highlights include:

• paving the new lanes under construction for the twinning of Highway 7 west of Saskatoon and on Highway 16 east of the city;
• paving Highway 42 from Keeler to Eyebrow;
• grading and paving Highways 41 and 44 from Glidden to Eatonia; and
• repaving work on Highway 2 north of Wakaw and on Highway 55 from the junction of Highway 924 to Green Lake.

The start dates for projects will depend on when the tender is awarded, contractor availability and weather.

This year’s Highways and Infrastructure budget is $842 million, the largest transportation budget in the province’s history. With the 2015-16 budget, the government has exceeded its 2011 commitment to invest $2.2 billion over four years by about half a billion dollars.
