Manitoba issues EOI for priority infrastructure projects

June 15, 2018 — The Manitoba government is accepting expressions of interest (EOI) from across the province to identify priority cost-shared infrastructure projects, Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton announced at the Midwestern June District Meeting.

“We want to hear from Manitobans what their priority projects are over the next five years,” said Wharton. “We look forward to working in partnership with the federal government, municipalities, non-profits, Indigenous and northern communities to identify projects so we can strategically prioritize, plan and budget accordingly.”

The governments of Canada and Manitoba recently announced the signing of a bilateral agreement that will provide more than $1.1 billion in federal funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) for infrastructure projects. It is a cost-shared program that will support infrastructure needs throughout Manitoba over the next 10 years.  

“This agreement paves the way for continued, historic levels of infrastructure investment in new priority projects across the province,” added Wharton. “This new agreement will deliver lasting benefits to Manitobans and enhance our government’s commitment to fair say for municipalities as we work to make Manitoba Canada’s most improved province.”

The program is divided into four investment streams:
• Public transit infrastructure;
• Green infrastructure;
• Community, culture and recreation infrastructure; and
• Rural and northern communities infrastructure.

In preparation for an initial intake, Manitoba has implemented a two-step process that will provide potential applicants with an opportunity to adequately plan and develop projects that align with the new program terms and conditions. The first step is the EOI, which will provide an opportunity to gather initial information on infrastructure priority projects over the next five years (2019 to 2023).

The EOI will capture basic information on priority projects:  project eligibility, project descriptions and anticipated outcomes. The province will be accepting EOI submissions until Aug. 10.
