New partnership invests $8 million in Ont. cement plant
A multi-company partnership is investing $8 million in Lafarge Canada's Inc.'s cement plant in Bath, Ont. Natural Resources Canada, the Queen's Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy, and Carbon Management Canada, have partnered to help the cement industry adopt low carbon fuels faster. They are going to aid Lafarge’s plant in developing innovative solutions by re-using local surplus materials as low carbon fuels.

CNRE welcomes families on industry day
The Canada North Resources Expo (CNRE) is taking place on May 31 and June 1 at the CN Centre in Prince George, B.C. Distributors will showcase more than four acres of indoor and outdoor equipment exhibits, and the event features a day where industry workers are encouraged to bring their families, letting them introduce and educate the next generation to these industries and possible career choices.

Holcim reports increases in Q1
Holcim Ltd. says it had a successful Q1 for 2013, increasing net income and cash flow from operating activities, reducing net financial debt compared with the end of March 2012, and achieving a better ROIC before tax. Holcim expects an increase in sales of cement, but it will be challenging to reach last year's levels in the aggregates and ready-mix concrete businesses.

Volvo Double-drum asphalt compactors from Volvo
Volvo has announced a new range of double-drum asphalt compactors designed to handle a variety of applications and deliver a smooth, even mat in fewer passes. The machines – the DD110B, DD120B and DD140B – offer dual amplitude settings, letting operators adjust drum forces when material depth changes.
