December 1, 2016  By  Andrew Snook

OHMPA president Donn Bernal offers an update on the amalgamation of OHMPA & ORBA.

December 1, 2016 – Ontario Hot Mix Producers’ Association’s (OHMPA) Donn Bernal offered attendees an update on the amalgamation of OHMPA with the Ontario Road Builders Association (ORBA).

Votes at OHMPA and ORBA took place on the amalgamation of both groups on Oct. 31 with ORBA voting unanimously in favour of the amalgamation and a near-unanimous vote in favour from OHMPA members.

The next step will be combining both associations with OHMPA becoming a council within ORBA as of January 1, 2017.

Bernall said that a great deal of work was performed by executive committees of both associations in trying to make sure everyone was content with how the amalgamation was going through. He told the crowd that both associations have the potential to complement each other extremely well; with one association strong on the advocacy side and dealing with government officials, while the other association offers a great deal of strength on the technical side and with educational programs.

“Putting these two together will definitely make for a stronger association,” Bernal said.

OHMPA will be changing its name as a member of council under ORBA; however, OHMPA’s current event program including its educational seminars will not change.

“Going forward we still want a strong focus on asphalt,” Bernal said, adding that the marketing component of OHMPA will remain to ensure that strong focus remains intact.
