National Heavy Equipment Show and Expo Grands Travaux

January 23, 2009  By  Andy Bateman

January
23, 2009 – Two major trade shows are in the right place at the right time to benefit
from federal government infrastructure funding worth $10.2 billion for the
provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

In
Ontario, the National Heavy Equipment Show will
be held in Toronto on March 5th and 6th,
2009, while Quebec hosts the second Expo
Grands Travaux in Montreal
on April 3rd and 4th, 2009. The federal funding is
earmarked for several infrastructure projects and is expected to give a welcome
boost to construction activity in both provinces. The shows’ producers are
optimistic that the funding will in turn generate increased interest in the wide
range of construction equipment and services on display.

Under
the terms of the seven-year Building Canada Infrastructure Framework Agreement,
some $6.2 billion will be provided to Ontario
and $4 billion to Quebec
to help fund their critical infrastructure projects. The new Building Canada
funding will be used in Ontario
to supplement the province’s five-year, $30 billion-plus investment plan to be
completed by 2010. Quebec
says the federal financing will support the $30 billion of infrastructure
investments that were announced in the 2007 provincial budget. (See Aggregates
& Roadbuilding September/ October 2008).

Expo Grands Travaux
The successful launch of Expo Grands Travaux in 2006 confirmed demand
for a heavy equipment show in Montreal, with its sold out floor show and a
reported attendance figure of 9 000.  According
to show producer and manager Master Promotions Limited, the
2009 Expo Grands
Travaux promises to be bigger and better, with the move to a new spring date
and show cycle in the off year of the
Conexpo-Con/Agg Show in Las Vegas
NV
.

& Roadbuilding will be publishing the official show guide.
