Edmonton road budget travels further

July 30, 2009  By  Andy Bateman

July 30
2009 – More road repairs will be completed this summer in Edmonton because of declining
construction costs.

An article in today’s Edmonton
Sun includes comment from the
city's manager of transportation operations who reports reductions of around 30-35% on mill and
resurfacing tenders. The drop in bid prices will allow additional projects worth some $8.5 million to be
completed this year instead of next, while still remaining within existing budgets. Tender values are said to have fallen due to reduced private sector work volumes and a resulting increase in competition on
public sector projects. Lower material costs are also cited as a factor.
