Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO) hosted their 17th annual Ontario Consulting Engineering Awards (OCEA) Gala at Copper Creek Golf Club on April 26.

The evening was themed around taking a “behind the scenes” look at the intricate work involved with consulting engineering. Often the obstacles and challenges that are overcome go unnoticed, which is why CEO created the OCEA to recognize the dedication and the innovative advancements their member firms achieve within the industry.

Eleven awards were presented throughout the event. Stealing the spotlight was John G. Cooke & Associates taking home the Willis Chipman award for the Government Conference Centre Rehabilitation in Ottawa. This project involved restoring a federal government building, originally constructed in 1912, while maintaining the integrity of its heritage.

Congratulations to the Awards of Merit winners: Adjeleian Allen Rubeli Limited for Algonquin College DARE District; Robinson Consultants Inc. for Northwest Arm Trunk Sewer Rehabilitation; DST Consulting Engineers for New Gold Rainy River Mine Development; Stantec for First Nations Infrastructure Resilience Toolkit & Pilot Projects; AECOM for Dundas Connects - Dundas Street Corridor Master Plan; and WSP for F.G. Gardiner Expressway Lower Simcoe Street (York – Bay – Yonge) Off Ramp.

Awards of Excellence winners include: AIA Engineers LLC for Highway 407 East extension Phase 2A; Blackwell for Schulich School of Business Expansion; Parsons for Fountain St./Grand River Bridge Superstructure Replacement; and Hatch for the Oxec II Hydroelectric Project.

Kevin Frankish, the former co-host of Breakfast Television, joined us in celebrating these outstanding projects by participating as the master of ceremonies at this prestigious event for the fourth consecutive year.

CEO represents the interests of approximately 170 consulting engineering firms that employ approximately 19,000 Ontarians. Accumulated gross revenues of consulting engineering firms across the country contribute north of $31 billion to the Canadian economy annually.
