AEM launches "Mission Not Accomplished" campaign
Six-figure national ad campaign urges Congress and the Trump Administration to prioritize infrastructure
The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) kicked off a new six-figure, national television and digital ad campaign today, reminding members of Congress and the Trump administration of their promise to fix our nation’s infrastructure. The centerpiece of the campaign is a new 30-second ad, titled “Mission Not Accomplished,” which is running on Fox & Friends, the Sean Hannity Show and Tucker Carlson Tonight in multiple media markets.
“Washington has failed to keep its promise to pass comprehensive legislation that will rebuild our nation’s infrastructure, create good-paying jobs and grow our economy,” said AEM president Dennis Slater. “During the 2016 election there was a lot of talk about fixing our country’s roads and bridges, but very little has been done since. Our country risks losing tens of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic activity if Congress and the Trump Administration don’t act soon.”
The television and digital ad campaign will run from August 6 to 18. The campaign also features ads on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and in select newspapers across the country. This includes media markets serving constituents of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Congressman Bill Shuster (R-PA), and Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.).
According to a new national poll of registered voters, also released today, three quarters of Americans want President Trump to keep his campaign promise to invest $1 trillion in infrastructure. But a majority of registered voters are not confident that the President will follow through on his promise.
“Americans across the country expect Washington to keep its promise to rebuild our roads and bridges, but their confidence in this actually happening is slipping,” added Slater. “That is why we asked the men and women of our industry to make the case for infrastructure directly to members of Congress and President Trump through media outlets they are known to watch and read.”
Last year AEM released The U.S. Infrastructure Advantage, which includes a set of policy recommendations designed to help America reclaim its infrastructure advantage, grow the 48,000 manufacturing jobs supported by transportation construction, and add to the $508 billion in annual economic activity generated by transportation construction. The report recognizes the U.S. is currently investing half of what it spent on transportation infrastructure more than 50 years ago. Over time if the investment gap continues to grow, the economy is expected to lose almost $4 trillion in gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025, resulting in a loss of 2.5 million jobs.
As part of its effort to reenergize focus around infrastructure, AEM is holding a town hall August 16, in Bismarck, North Dakota, at Doosan Bobcat’s Acceleration Center. The town hall will be streamed live on Facebook – with the primary audience being men and women working in the industry – and will feature a three-person panel of policy experts.

About the Poll
This poll was conducted by Morning Consult from July 13-14, 2018, among a national sample of nearly 2,000 registered voters. The interviews were conducted online and the data were weighted to approximate a target sample of Registered Voters based on age, race/ethnicity, gender, educational attainment, and region. Results from the full survey have a margin of error of +/- 2%.
